The short answer
MERCARI INC is an online purchase or seller fee from Mercari, an e-commerce marketplace for secondhand electronics, clothing, collectibles, and household items.
Where the marketplace charges originate
Mercari, Inc. operates a peer-to-peer e-commerce marketplace where millions of individuals buy and sell pre-owned items. When you complete an order on the Mercari app or mercari.com, your credit card or PayPal statement records MERCARI INC, MERCARI*PURCHASE, or MERCARI.COM.
When a buyer places an order on Mercari, the company immediately authorizes and captures the full order amount, which includes the item purchase price, state sales tax, shipping fees, and any applicable buyer service or payment processing fees. Mercari holds the payment in escrow until the buyer receives the package and rates the seller (or until 72 hours elapse after carrier delivery tracking confirms arrival).
If you sell items on Mercari, you may also see charges related to shipping adjustments. When a seller understates a package's weight or dimensions, shipping carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS) levy postage balance adjustments that Mercari automatically deducts from the seller's account balance or registered card.
Charges you might not recognize
- An online purchase made through the Mercari mobile application or website.
- A seller shipping overage fee deducted because a package exceeded the carrier weight tier.
- A pre-authorization hold for an offer you submitted to a seller that was accepted.
- A family member purchased an item using your stored payment method in the Mercari app.
Taking control of your orders
- Open the Mercari app and tap the Profile tab Navigate to My Purchases to review your complete itemized order history and track active shipments.
- Review shipping weight adjustments under My Sales If you are a seller, check your completed sales to see if carrier shipping adjustments caused an unexpected debit.
- Open a return request within 72 hours of delivery If an item arrived damaged or not as described, initiate a return in the app before rating the seller, as rating completes the transaction.

If a seller fails to ship within 3 business days, you can request immediate order cancellation through the app for a full 100% refund back to your original payment method.
